Deepest condolences to NIU, friends and family

The University has learned that a U of I student has been identified as the gunman in Thursday's fatal shooting at Northern Illinois University that left six people dead and more than a dozen more injured.

The entire University of Illinois family extends its deepest condolences to the friends and family of the victims, and to everyone on the Northern Illinois University campus affected by this tragedy. Counselors from the U of I are in DeKalb to assist the NIU staff, and we will continue to offer whatever assistance we can.
